MIMMI Comes to the Minneapolis Convention Center Plaza

Last Thursday marked the launch of the Minneapolis Interactive Macro-Mood Installation (MIMMI), which has been suspended over the plaza of the Minneapolis Convention Center. The large, inflatable sculpture reflects the mood of residents and visitors through changing colors and water activity, gathering this information from local Twitter feeds. Hovering 30 feet above the ground, MIMMI analyzes information in real-time, with lights shifting from cool colors for negative moods to warm and hot colors for happier moods, as well as higher levels of misting when feelings are more positive. The display, which will be on view through October, kicked off with a speech from Mayor R.T. Rybak, the winning design team and Jeff Johnson, executive director of the Minneapolis Convention Center, as well as a performance by Ananya Dance Theater, and was followed by an all-day Wellness on the Plaza event on Friday.
